Bringing Uber Eats to College Campuses

Bringing Uber Eats to College Campuses

Uber is a global technology platform that connects people with rides, food delivery, and other services. Now, they're looking to expand that impact into student life—starting with UCLA, the #1-ranked school for college dining.

The Uber for Business Team challenged Product Space, a student-led product consultancy at UCLA to explore the opportunity of integrating Uber Eats with UCLA’s campus dining system, a challenge that required understanding not just student behavior, but also the priorities of UCLA administrators.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

We presented a go-to-market strategy backed by user research, competitive analysis, opportunity areas, and wireframes showing how Uber Eats could integrate with UCLA’s campus card system to a team of Uber PMs, directors, researchers, and stakeholders.

OUR IMPACT

Uber took key insights from our research to refine their broader campus partnership strategy at universities like the University of Toronto, where they recently launched a feature allowing students to order from retail restaurants through Uber Eats.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION PREVIEW

Student Group Orders

Informed by 30+ student interviews, 100+ survey responses, and conversations with UCLA Dining and Housing staff, our team proposed a Student Group Order feature that lets students split large orders and save on delivery fees.

This solution bridges dining gaps across campus, supports all housing types, and reflects the most feasible path forward based on administrative input.

Mobile Order App Integration

Mobile Order App

Integration

This concept connects UCLA’s dining system with Uber, letting students order from campus eateries, pay with their campus card, and track orders in one app. It streamlines access and expands access and convenience for students across campus.

Integration with Existing Campus Dining Workflows

Designed for minimal friction, this solution complements current systems and offers clear value to students, staff, and administrators, reflecting insights from the university's operational stance.

App Flow & Payment Alignment

App Flow & Payment

Alignment

Designed to fit seamlessly into existing Uber flows, the feature builds on familiar checkout patterns with flexibility to align with UCLA’s campus payment systems like the BruinCard.

OUR PROCESS

Competitive Analysis

Audited food delivery platforms and campus workflows to assess gaps, opportunities, and unmet needs.

03

Synthesis & Ideation

Synthesized insights into product concepts; pivoted based on feasibility and administrative feedback.

04

Validation & Iteration

Refined wireframes through feedback and prototyping to arrive at the final Student Group Order feature.
